What Should I Do!?
Have you ever had a situation that you just did not know what you should do? Did it feel like a win win (which are good situations of course) or lose lose? I’m sure most would agree that the win win situations are much easy to deal with than the lose lose. However, what I have found in my coaching practice is that many people get stuck in making a decision period. It doesn’t matter if it is based on something good or making a tough decision about something that over all feels not so good. Feelings of not knowing what to do, most often, boils down to a fear of decision making. What is it about decisions that seem so hard? It comes down to one thing, fear. Many people fear change and many people fear making the wrong decision. We get bogged down with the “what if” game that puts us in a state of decision paralysis. Here are some tips that I have discover have helped clients overcome their decision paralysis: Do inventory of your own personal goals and values. If you are firm in these areas it makes evaluating the possible outcomes of a decision easier. Which leads to the second tip, weigh out “What happens if I do….” and “What happens if I don’t…” If you determine that one way undermines or forgoes your values and or goals more than the other, it is easier to decide. And lastly, accept that in almost everything in life there are unknown variables that make everything subject to change. Stay firmly rooted in your personal values and values. The key is to take ahold of a mindset that says no matter what comes, it ultimately is for your own personal growth and betterment.
